When Giuditta Pasta, a soprano at the height of his glory, created Norma at La Scala in Milan, Vincenzo Bellini had already had many successes to his credit. Thanks to the close collaboration with the librettist Felice Romani, the work is born in less than three months. After a rather cold reception, which will destabilize the Sicilian composer, Norma quickly becomes a leading work in the seasons of theaters around the world.
Before slipping into the skin of the priestess / lover / mother, the greatest sopranos in the history of music have had to face the "murderous" writing of the role that requires unusual vocal resources and a force Dramatic without peer; Which earned Norma the nickname of "role role". It is in the musical writing of this extraordinary character and below all in the air of entry, the famous Casta diva that resides all the genius of a living tradition: the Italian belcanto.
