Odessa, Ukrainian port city overlooking the Black Sea, late 19th century. As soon as she arrived in the region, a young woman attracted the attention of journalists. There is talk about theft and disappearances, and the city is quickly wrapped in an atmosphere of fear and curiosity. Intrigued, however, people quickly become admiring the grace and humor of Sonia, but also the finesse and intelligence with which she realizes her business. Soon, Sonia is nicknamed "The Golden Hand". The newspapers will then take advantage of this new notoriety to attribute to her many cases unresolved by the local police. In spite of her exceptional agility in relieving some of her diamonds by pretending to be a lady of high society and her talent to hide her crimes and larcenies, La Main d'Or will end up in the galleys, condemned to expiate her sins until her death.
