Born in 1924 in Livorno (Italy), Gianfranco Baruchello is an Italian artist, painter, poet and filmmaker often associated with the post-modern avant-garde.
Aquainted with Marcel Duchamp, Gilles Deleuze and Jean-François Lyotard, Baruchello remains however a figure who "always escaped the radars" of the world of art, as Nicolas Bourriaud likes to say that proposes to (re-) discover it through this exhibition.
After the Second World War, Gianfranco Baruchello completed his law studies with a thesis in economics. In 1947, he worked for the chemical company Delfini Bombrini Parodi, specialized in explosives. In 1949, encouraged by his father, he became involved with Delfini, taking charge of the research and development department for the biochemical part. Baruchello definitively left the industrial environment in 1959, to devote himself entirely to art, in particular to painting.
