Founded in 1881, today the Observatoire de Nice is one of the 4 geographical sites of the Observatoire de la Côte d’Azur, a public Earth and Space sciences research centre. Located at Mont Gros to the east of the city of Nice, the site combines exceptional historic heritage with contemporary research infrastructure.
Built by Charles Garnier, it is home to Europe's largest mobile dome, designed by Gustave Eiffel.
